Lost Civilizations In The Gilgit Baltistan

 lost-civilizations-in-gilgit
Gilgit-Baltistan has a long history. There have been many civilizations which have lived in this part of the region. Being an administrative territory, the region of Gilgit is bordered by many other territories including KPK, Afghanistan, and China. One thing about Civilizations is that they carry on for hundreds or thousands of years and then they eventually fade away. Same is the story of Gilgit-Baltistan as well. Well, there would be a complete book if we write about the complete history of civilizations. What we can do is to bring you the history and origin of the people living currently in these areas.

If we talk about the religious faiths of the people who have resided here for the centuries, it has always been different and varied according to the ruling dynasty. However, for recent centuries, Islam has been the dominant religion and still, the majority of the population living in these areas are Muslim. Even though being a part of the democratic system of Pakistan, Gilgit-Baltistan is known for its diversity of cultures, languages, and beliefs. If we talk about the main ruling dynasty, we can say that it would be Trakhans who have been the dominant culture in the areas.

When British were ruling over the sub-continent, this region was under their influence as well. The hub of the power of the British Rule was based in the valley of Hunza and Nagar. Being the main parts of the territory, all the ruling forces have placed their focus in these areas of the region. With the independence of the sub-continent and the departure of British, it finally became a free state as well, however, with which country they should reside, it was a problem at that time as well. But, we won't get into the history of that since we have some limitations for this article.
 gilgit-lost-civilizations

1947 to 1970 Government of Pakistan established Gilgit Agency and Baltistan Agency. In 1970 Northern areas council established by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Gilgit Baltistan was directly administrated by the federal government and it was called FANA(Federal administrated northern areas). In 1963, Pakistan ceded a part of Hunza-Gilgit called Raskam and the Shaksgam Valley of Baltistan region to the China pending settlement of the dispute over Kashmir. This ceded area is also known as the Trans-Karakoram Tract.

So this was some of the histories of the current and lost civilizations in Gilgit-Baltistan. We would be coming with more on this beautiful piece of heaven on earth so stay tuned to our blog.
